Don’t Go On Another Sales Call Until You Learn This Secret

When you hear the word Marketing, you don’t really associate phone sales as part of it. I get it, however, it plays a much bigger role than you think.

It’s all well and good nailing your marketing but what happens when you finally get a willing prospect on the phone?

Let’s talk about that.

You Will Be Nervous

No matter who or what you are, man, beast, or alien, sales calls are extremely nerve racking.

When you're new to phone sales, you can lay awake at night worrying about what you’re going to say and if your prospect is going to buy.  At least that was my experience at the beginning.

You’ll be glad to know it does get better over time. You’ll be more and more confident after each and every call. Although, the nerves never truly disappear.

This Is Unavoidable

Don’t take that the wrong way though, nerves are a good thing, It’s your body's way of telling you you’re ready for battle.

The only time you should really be worrying is if you let those nerves completely take over. That’s when things really go off the rails.

You’ll find that no matter how many times you practice your script to perfection, the call will never really follow it. When you first experience this you’ll panic. You’ll talk faster, and stumble over your words.

This is completely normal.

I remember my first sales call very well. The client was a wedding photographer. He was quite rude. I found myself stumbling over almost every sentence, I even went off on a tangent talking about orangutans for some reason.

The point is this will happen, and the only thing you can do is put in the reps to get better.

Let’s Double Your Sales

There’s a certain attitude that if you use it going into your sales calls you’ll see a massive improvement almost instantly. In both confidence and sales skills.

Before the call I want you to visualize things going really well. Imagine you get along like a house on fire, and you make the sale.

At the end of the day, even if you’re on the phone with the president, remember, they are just as human as you.

Neither person is there to impress the other. Don’t forget, you are trying to help solve their problem, they want to talk to you or you wouldn’t be on the call in the first place.

And if for some reason things do go a little off the rails, don’t sweat it. Just relax, don’t tighten up, it just makes things worse. And for the love of the flying spaghetti monster, don’t forget to breathe. (A lot more common than you might think.)

I want you to have your script somewhere in front of you. Even if you’re not using it, you can always take a quick look if you need it.

Biggest point:

If you don’t manage to close them, don’t panic. There’s an endless amount of prospects, chances are you’ll have thousands of calls after this one.

If you go into the call with this attitude, I guarantee, your closing rate will improve massively very quickly.

Talk soon.
